The fourth season of Demon Slayer is here, which means Lady Tamayo returns with an unwavering determination to stop Muzan at all costs. She is a woman of resilience and strength, but why has Lady Tamayo been hiding from Muzan since the first season of Demon Slayer?

Spoiler Warning: This article includes spoilers for the Demon Slayer manga series, so proceed with caution.

Lady Tamayo and Muzan Kibutsuji’s Fateful Encounter in Demon Slayer

Every major demon in the series has a story with the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji, and Lady Tamayo is no exception.

She was one of the many gullible humans who trusted Muzan with her life at the beginning of the series, before the main plot.

Lady Tamayo was once a human who, at some point, got afflicted with an incurable disease, resulting in her desperation to find a cure, which Muzan took advantage of.

He not only tricked Lady Tamayo, but he also turned her into a savage demon, taking the lives of all the people she cared about in the process.

This incident left Lady Tamayo scarred for life, but she had no choice but to follow Muzan and live a life of servitude—that is until they met Yoriichi Tsugikuni, who nearly killed Muzan.

Thankfully, Yoriichi honored Lady Tamayo’s feelings and wishes, resolving to change her destiny and fight her demonic instincts.

She successfully escaped from Muzan, refusing to return to his side no matter what happened to her.

What Is Lady Tamayo’s Goal in Demon Slayer?

Over the years, Lady Tamayo has only had one goal in mind: to find a cure that could help reverse demonic transformation and restore her kind’s lost humanity.

She wants to return everything to normal and undo Muzan’s wicked deeds that took so many innocent lives.

To do this, Lady Tamayo fought his demonic instincts, refusing to eat and drink a living human’s flesh and blood following her separation from Muzan.

She consumed animals and dead bodies instead to survive and to get used to her new lifestyle.

It worked eventually and Lady Tamayo never felt the urge to attack humans again, denouncing Muzan’s control over her life.

So, Why Is Lady Tamayo Hiding from Muzan in Demon Slayer?

Since the first season, Lady Tamayo has been hiding from Muzan to continue her research about the cure for demons. She moves from one place to another to prevent Muzan from detecting her presence.

She always finds ways to hide herself, which makes her incredibly difficult to track, although Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s kasugai crow was able to find her in season 4.

She even asked Tanjiro to help her out, which the latter agreed to.

Her relationship with Tanjiro is one of the best things that happened to her research, allowing her to study the blood of Nezuko, the only demon who overcame the sun.

If Muzan finds Lady Tamayo, her research will be discontinued, and her life will be in great danger. She is a traitor to demons, after all.
