Why is Hughie's mom back in The Boys season 4? The most absent female figure of Hughie Campbell's life all of a sudden returned just in time when his father needed him the most. But what's the big idea?

Considering she left Hughie when he was merely six years old, what changed now? Fans factor in that she may have a hidden agenda behind her 'visit'.

Hughie's Mom Was a Huge (Unwelcoming) Surprise in Season 4

The Boys was always just between Hughie and his dad, even when he left him to hunt down A-Train and the rest of The Seven. However, season 4 changed things by involving Hughie's mother, Daphne, returning to 'take care' of his father.

Hughie's mom (played by Rosemarie Dewitt) introduced herself as a 'Voughtality Consultant'. While she's seemingly convinced she could help Hughie by bringing Vought products to his dad's hospital bed, Hughie thinks otherwise.

Well, the tables turned when Daphne claimed that Hugh Sr. updated his will and still wanted her involved in their life, which Hughie didn't take lightly.

Daphne said she was only 22 when she had Hughie with Hugh Sr. At the time, she was dealing with postpartum depression, and even though her friends advised her to give her family a chance, the feeling never went away.

When she tried overdosing on 40 Ambien and failed, she took Hughie to school and used that as her last goodbye, instead. Seeing this come out of her system fails to answer why Hughie's mom returned to The Boys. Here's what fans think.

Fans Surmise Her Return is No Coincidence

Right off the bat, Daphne's connection is immediately tied to Vought International.

How big of a coincidence can this be, especially when Homelander and The Seven are technically against what the Boys are advocating for supe management?

Daphne may be working for Vought's cause, utilized to their advantage to threaten Hugh Sr.'s life with what her products could potentially inflict on him behind Hughie's back.

However, fans also came up with another theory that could be solved in The Boys season 4 episode 5: the possibility that Daphne may be Hughie's hallucination after taking a couple of V24 vials.

A similar phenomenon kept happening to Butcher, how could Hughie's be any different?

Either of these two essentially means she's bad news in their life: a distraction and a piece that doesn't exactly fit the whole puzzle. We'll have to check this out once the fifth episode airs, aka where Hugh Sr. has finally regained consciousness.
