The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke recently opened up about the online backlash from some fans over the series' final episode.

It's been more than two weeks now since the finale of the hit Prime Video series was released. While the responses were mostly positive, it still received backlash from some fans, who felt it was not a proper closure for the series or that the characters' fates were unwarranted. Nevertheless, it still performed well in the viewership ratings.

In a recent interview with TVLine, Kripke addressed the online backlash from fans surrounding the finale of The Boys, weeks after it was released on Prime Video.

He acknowledged that some fans online were not happy about how the series ended, but in the end, he still stood by the creative decision that they made on the finale.

"I'm not healthy in that I'm like, 'Oh, I never look.' I see it all. Obviously, there are a lot of unhappy people online, but there are two things I would say: First, I'm just glad people are passionate, legitimately," the showrunner said.

"My job is to make people passionate about the work I put out. If they're arguing about it and hating it and fighting, that's all passion, man. You're watching, and that's all good. My job is to get an emotional reaction, not necessarily to dictate what that emotional reaction is."

Kripke also noted that the "online world" does not reflect what is happening in the real world, so he wasn't affected by some of the responses he saw.

"We have way north of 60 million viewers, so that makes the online storm, which feels very all-encompassing, actually a fraction of a single percentage point," he said.

"Everyone's entitled to their opinion, of course, and I'm sorry if I disappointed you, but it was the story I wanted to tell. You just have to put it into perspective of it being a reasonably small, vocal audience when the vast majority seem to be happily tuning in."

The fifth and final season of The Boys recently finished its run, while Gen V was canceled by Prime Video after airing two seasons.

The next spinoff series is Vought Rising, which will star Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash as Stormfront, reprising their roles from the main series. It is slated to premiere in 2027.

The prequel is a twisted, noir-inspired murder mystery that delves into the 1950s origins of Vought International. It tracks the early exploits of Soldier Boy alongside the ruthless maneuvers of Clara Vought (the woman fans would eventually know as Stormfront).

They have strikingly similar origins rooted in the work of Frederick Vought. Soldier Boy stands as the first American non-aging superhero, a product of World War II experimentation. He is joined by Stormfront, who served as Frederick Vought’s first successful test subject. Having married the creator before their move to the United States, her presence in the 1950s highlights the deeply personal and diabolical history behind the Vought empire’s rise to power.
