Why Captain America: Civil War Tells the Best Chapter of Bucky and Cap’s Relationship

One of the motivating factors why Steve Rogers is against the Sokovia Accords in Captain America: Civil War is that he wants to help save his friend, Bucky Barnes. Apparently, the Marvel film will explore the best chapter yet of Bucky and Cap's friendship.

During a Q&A with BuzzFeed for Civil War, at one point, the question of "Steve and Bucky's current relationship" came up. Director Anthony Russo's answer is perhaps another compelling reason why viewers who have been following the story of the Avengers would want to see Civil War.

Russo answered:

The relationship between Steve and Bucky is one of my brother's and my favorite aspects of the Captain America movies. It's so complex and tragic. They have a devotion to one another that is undermined and devastated by fate, and exploring how they endure that is fascinating for us as storytellers and fans.
We feel Civil War is the best chapter yet in the story of their relationship. The character has gone from being Bucky Barnes to being the Winter Soldier, and now in this movie he is something else. We explore whether he and Steve can ever have a relationship again and, if so, what that relationship can be.

Take a look at the entire Q&A:

While Captain America's undying devotion to Bucky would suggest that the Winter Soldier has fully recovered from HYDRA's brainwashing, there's still the possibility that Bucky is still not fully able to control his own actions in Civil War, which could be the reason for Tony Stark's disagreement with Steve Rogers.

It's pretty cool to receive further confirmation that Civil War will delve into its character's relationships other than action sequences and explosions.

I'm pretty interested to see how Bucky and Cap's relationship will play out once Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6.
