Tokita Niko is a prominent figure in the lore of Kengan Ashura. He often appears as an apparition to remind Ohma of the true strength of the Niko style. He died early in the anime series, but who killed Niko in Kengan Ashura? Is it Setsuna Kiryu, or is it Tokita Ohma himself?
Netflix’s Kengan Ashura tells the story of Tokita Ohma, a Kengan fighter who enters the Kengan Annihilation Tournament (Life or Death Kengan Tournament) in the hopes of becoming the strongest fighter in the world.

Did Setsuna Kiryu Kill Niko?
No, Setsuna Kiryu is not Tokita Niko's killer in Kengan Ashura. He was just at the scene of the crime when it occurred, giving the impression that he was the one who murdered Niko.
Personally, I assumed he was the murderer, but the truth is revealed near the end of Kengan Ashura Season 1 when Kiryu meets Ohma prior to the Kengan Annihilation Tournament.
Setsuna Kiryu is a unique martial arts practitioner. He was a frail and depressed youngster until he encountered a young but vicious Tokita Ohma, who happened to be in the area.
He had a change of heart after seeing Tokita Ohma as a strong and powerful God who saved his life, albeit only for a short time.
Kiryu's admiration and passion for Ohma soon turned fatal. He became fascinated with Ohma to the point where he wanted to kill him for his own pleasure and satisfaction.
His dislike for the Niko style may be traced back to the existence of Tokita Niko. In the eyes of Kiryu, Niko is the man who always gets in the way between him and Ohma.
Did Tokita Ohma Kill Niko?
No, Tokita Ohma did not kill Tokita Niko in Kengan Ashura. They always trained and fought, but they never got to the point where they wanted to murder each other.
Except for the time Ohma nearly died in order to figure out the ultimate secret technique of the Niko Style, Demonsbane, in the Gakigahara Forest.
They have a healthy mentor-student relationship, unlike Kiryu’s toxic and corrupt relationship with his master. In case you didn’t know, Kiryu killed his master after he grew stronger than him.
Initially, Tokita Niko was a yakuza hitman who was searching for a nameless young thief, who eventually was revealed to be Ohma on the inside.
He saw potential in the young boy and decided to take him in as a disciple. It was even Tokita Niko who gave Ohma his name!
After Niko passed away, Tokita Ohma had conflicting feelings about his mentor and his martial arts style. He did not trust the Niko style anymore and would rather go with Advance in times of trouble.
By the end of Kengan Ashura Season 2 Part 1, Tokita Ohma had finally settled his feelings with Niko after being reminded of the time he spent with him at Gakigahara Forest.
So, Who Killed Niko in Kengan Ashura?
Taira Genzan, Setsuna Kiryu’s master, killed Tokita Niko (Four) in Kengan Ashura, but his death is mostly due to the injuries he sustained from subduing Ohma’s advance and from fighting the other Tokita Niko (Six).
Tokita Niko (Four) is one of the seven people who were awarded the name Tokita Niko by their master, Mukaku Gaoh. After surviving the deadly training for Demonsbane, Mukaku abandoned Four as well as the Niko Style.
Unfortunately, the other Tokita Niko (Six) came after Ohma, planting the Possessing Spirit (Advance) in the young fighter’s body.
It immediately caused a violent reaction in Ohma, and it was only Tokita Niko who was able to subdue him.
His predicament did not stop there, as the other Tokita Niko (Six) showed himself to kill Niko. The other Niko failed to kill him, but Taira Genzan, who appeared after he defeated the other Niko, managed to finish him off.
