Jubilee is a stand-out character in Marvel and Disney’s new X-Men series. As she has a big role in the story, some fans are curious about Holly Chou, who voices Jubilee in X-Men ’97. After all, she has done a great job bringing the character to life.

There is a straightforward answer to this, but there’s also an interesting story behind the casting decision for this new series.

Voicing Jubilee in X-Men ’97 is Holly Chou, an actress who has played roles in various films, animated titles, and video games.

For her voice roles, Chou is perhaps best known for being the voice of Chiki in Blue Eye Samurai, the animated series set in the Edo period that was released on Netflix in November 2023.

Another major role of Chou is Akama in Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, a spinoff in the popular Yakuza/Like a Dragon series by RGG Studio and SEGA.

Now though, Chou is best known for being the voice of Jubilee, the youngest member of the X-Men. Chou wasn’t the original voice of Jubilee though.

In the original X-Men: The Animated Series, Jubilee was voiced by Alyson Court, though she does not return in the new show to voice her.

While X-Men ’97 is a sequel to the classic 90s X-Men show, the new animated series features a mix of new and returning cast members. Court is one of the original VAs to not return to her original role.

Interestingly, Court has mentioned before that she did not wish to reprise the role. In a tweet shared back in 2020, Court said that she would prefer that an Asian actor voice Jubilee instead given the character’s ethnicity.

As for Jubilee’s new voice, it seems that Court’s preference was honored as Chou is an Asian-American actress.

Even though Court isn’t back as Jubilee, she did make a voice cameo as a different character. In Episode 4, Court voiced Abcissa, a version of Jubilee from an alternate universe.

Abcissa may not be a recurring character given the show’s events, but it’s very much a fitting role for Court given how her performance as Jubilee in the original series continues to be appreciated by long-time fans.
