Significant Other is a relatively new movie that was released on Paramount+ in October 7, 2022. The sci-fi horror film has an ominous feel to it, thanks to the backdrop where the film was shot. It is because of this reason why many are asking where they shot Significant Other.

What Is Significant Other About?
Significant Other is a sci-fi horror written and directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen. It follows the story of a couple, Harry (played by Jake Lacy) and Ruth (played by Maika Monroe), as they go camping in the woods. Throughout their hike, they uncover mysterious objects that would later be revealed to be the start of an alien invasion.
Where Did They Shoot Significant Other?
So where did they shoot Significant Other? The answer is in the Pacific Northwest. The outdoorsy vibe was completed by the different Oregon locations that they filmed in. Among those include Silver Falls State Park, Nehalem, Silverton, Cloverdale, Sandy, Cornelius, Eagle Creek, Estacada, and Sublimity.
One interesting thing to know about Significant Other is that they filmed the movie at the height of the COVID outbreak in 2020. The directors initially planned to shoot the movie on an iPhone but was picked up by Paramount Plus which led the movie to gain more expertise and equipment for production.
In an interview, director Robert Olsen told ComicBook.com:
"We had a very specific idea of what we wanted the woods to feel like. Although the movie takes place in this very, very vast outdoors, it's still a single location in many ways.
"And so, you have the same challenge you do with a limited location movie of location fatigue, of the audience getting bored of looking at four white walls, or in this case, a bunch of trees. And so we knew we needed gorgeous, old-growth forest that also had enough space in between trees to actually be able to mount a production effectively, and also variety within that, so we could actually express to the viewer different locations within an hour radius of Portland. And then, obviously, the coast being that incredibly dramatic topography and look. So yeah, it was certainly going to be somewhere along the Pacific ... It was either going to be Oregon or Washington or Vancouver, but Portland was our number one choice, and that's where we landed."
Because of its ominous backdrop, it's no wonder why Silver Falls State Park and the Oregon Coast was chosen for its location. In fact, other movies used this location to film too. The other films that have shot in Silver Falls, Oregon include Fight Like Ana, Twilight, and The Hunted.
Who Stars in Significant Other Movie?
In an interview with The Gate magazine, Maika Monroe (who plays Ruth in the film) was asked if she had a tough time with the location. Monroe answered: "It was absolutely delightful, beautiful. Every day we would show up, our trailer was in like a forest area, and I really enjoyed it."
Her co-star, Jake Lacy (who plays Harry) also answered the question with:
“We shot out by the beach and stayed at this… sort of a seventies two-level coastal hotel, and then the next spot we were at for a few days, just north of that, was 10 minutes from Cannon Beach where they shot ‘Goonies.’ I’ve never seen the topography, flora, and fauna on that scale.”
