Invasion is Apple TV+'s sci-fi drama that captured the attention of audiences around the world. The first season of the show was released in October 22, 2021 and fans are already asking the magic question: when is Invasion Season 2 coming out?
And that is only understandable. Invasion Season 1 walked viewers through the very early days of an intergalactic war against earth's invaders. We take a look at the struggle of an immigrant family hailing from Long Island as they try to survive this global threat.

Has Invasion Been Renewed for Season 2?
Just before the first season wrapped up, fans already got word that the show was renewed for a second season. Apple TV+ officially renewed the show for Season 2 via an Instagram announcement. They captioned the post with: "#Invasion has been renewed for Season 2. Catch the epic Season 1 finale this Friday."
But for critics, the decision to renew the show was a surprise, given the middling reviews. Not to mention, the show reportedly cost a lot of money for Apple TV+ to make. Actor Shamier Anderson (as Trevante Ward) told The Hollywood Reporter that Invasion Season 1 reportedly had a $200 million budget. But Apple TV+ seems to have faith on Invasion so there must be something there that still needs to be seen via another season.
Invasion Season 2 Release Date
Even though Invasion Season 2 has been confirmed, we still don't know when it will be coming out. The announcement was made on December 10, 2021 and ever since then, we haven't heard of any developments regarding the show. And while this makes fans wonder when Invasion Season 2's release date will be, fans are hopeful that it hasn't been cancelled.
If we were to guess on its release date, we could look at the pattern on how they released the first season. The show was first announced in January 2019 before making its premiere in October of the same year. It's possible that Apple TV+ will follow this schedule and release the show in October 2022. But again, this is purely speculation on our end.
If anything, we remain hopeful that the production is ongoing and nearing completion. Since the show was renewed before the final episode of Invasion Season 1, it's a good indication that the second season was already being developed before the big announcement.
Invasion Season 2 Story
The official synopsis that Apple TV+ released for the first season of the show is: "Set across multiple continents, "Invasion" follows an alien invasion through different perspectives around the world."
There is no synopsis yet for Invasion Season 2. But there is reason to believe that Simon Kinberg, the show's co-creator and executive producer, plans to "make a deeply human, emotional alien invasion story." In an interview with Deadline, the co-creator also share that he is "super excited about what we're planning for season two, expanding our universe in the most intimate and epic ways."
In another interview with Deadline, Kinberg says the upcoming season will be "Act 2 of a movie where sh*t goes crazy. The second is the full-on action of the battle for Earth that I had always wanted for the show."
This suggests that the show will primarily focus of it being an alien invasion and what the survivors do to stay alive several months later. The upcoming season will explore the effects of the invasion as they deal with "a new type of enemy" while still holding onto "things like hope and love and family in the face of that."
With a budget that big, it's possible that the writers are planning to create large-scale havoc for the second season.
Invasion Season 2 Cast
Since this show deals with an alien invasion, it's likely that some characters from the first season have died. To make up for this, the show will be adding new characters to the mix.
Unfortunately, there has not yet been any news about any casting or introduction of new actors until now. We do expect the original cast to return for Invasion Season 2, such as:
