Although the major shinobi villages have more peace than before, Boruto's story opens up on a rather grim note, where the Hidden Leaf Village appears to have been completely destroyed and two characters, Boruto Uzumaki and Kawaki, stand amidst all its destruction.

Boruto is heard saying that the age of shinobi is over, and it looks like Kawaki has a lot to do with that.

However, it's still unclear how this tragedy happens because the story immediately goes back four years in time to the beginning of Boruto's journey as a shinobi.

With that, the series clearly established that Boruto will certainly have a significant timeskip, however, fans are still wondering when the shonen series will enter its timeskip.

There was a timeskip between the original Naruto series and Naruto: Shippuden, so it's not surprising that Boruto will eventually get one.

So here's what we know so far about the upcoming timeskip in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.

The timeskip in Boruto happened on August 21, 2023, as the manga series finally made a comeback after roughly four months of hiatus. It was a four-year time skip after Boruto was exiled from Konohagakure.

It has been a wild time prior to the hiatus, as Boruto was teased as a fugitive from the Leaf Village after he was accused of killing his own father, Naruto, and his pretend son, Kawaki.

With the timeskip confirmed, the beloved characters in Boruto also had older appearances in addition to their newly acquired skills and abilities.

Moreover, the visual changes are obvious, as the timeskip took four years of their lives.

In addition to Boruto, Sarada also had significant changes in her appearance and style. Not to mention, Mitsuki, who had a more intense aura.

Of course, we are anticipating the events after the timeskip, such as Boruto’s training with Sasuke to get stronger, his efforts to change everyone’s false memories from Eida's omnipotence, save his parents, as well as his clash with Kawaki and Code.

No further information about the succeeding chapters has been revealed, taking the hype for the series to yet another level.

Boruto artist Mikio Ikemoto previously mentioned that he intends to end the series with around 30 volumes, so with 20 manga volumes out, the series has reached its halfway point.

The manga series will likely end in 2026, but Shueisha and the Boruto creators haven't confirmed when they will wrap up its story.

After the timeskip, readers of the manga will likely see major things develop for the overarching plot of the story.

For starters, Shikamaru is now Naruto's stand-in as Hokage of the Leaf Village. Naruto, along with Hinata, are now missing in action after being taken away by Kawaki!

Worse, the villagers in the Leaf Village, except Sarada and a few more shinobi, are affected by Eida's omnipotence, which has overwritten their memories.

They now see Boruto as a fugitive and the man who killed the Seventh Hokage, while Kawaki replaced Boruto's position. What's more, Code appeared in Konoha to use Boruto's friends to find him.

In the latest chapters after the timeskip, Boruto also had a major upgrade as the latest variation of Rasengan was revealed!

It is called Rasengan Uzuhiko, which makes use of the earth's planetary spin, forcing Code to retreat and escape from Boruto's clutches.

However, Boruto used a toad to follow Code's whereabouts. Boruto was successful in cornering Code, but the Ten Tails have disappeared.

Instead, Boruto was welcomed by the Shinju, who were all coming after his life, just waiting for the perfect timing to devour him.

The latest chapters also revealed that Sasuke has been turned into a tree, and Kashin Koji is working with Boruto on a very important mission to secure the Ten Tails.

The timeskip could also pave the way for Sarada Uchiha to awaken new abilities, such as her Mangekyo Sharingan.

Sarada barely gets page time in recent manga chapters, so it's likely that her major power-ups can come offscreen. Mitsuki could also become more powerful with Orochimaru's help.

We might also see Kawaki become a villain after the timeskip, so we will likely see Amado's plan come to fruition with his help.

Many fans are already speculating that Kawaki will fight Boruto after the timeskip, just like how Naruto ended up fighting Sasuke in Naruto: Shippuden.

Speaking of Naruto and Sasuke, we might also see the two characters become stronger after the timeskip.

But at this point, it's still unclear how they will become relevant to the major battles in the future of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
