Back in 2018, the story of the Thai soccer team that got trapped in a flooded cave shocked the entire world. The group of boys were stranded in the cave for a total of 17 days together with their coach in Tham Luang cave in Northern Thailand.
The miraculous rescue story has since inspired several filmmakers to adapt the story into a movie. Thirteen Lives is the latest film that dramatizes the rescue mission exerted by the incredible team of divers, volunteers, and rescue personnel.
This isn't the first time a movie was inspired by the incident. The first movie, entitled The Cave, featured some of the real-life divers and participants from the rescue mission. The 2019 movie had some pacing issues so its audience reception did not fare well.
A couple of years later, Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin released a documentary that showcased some of the actual footage from the mission. The footage took a couple of years to obtain but it was well worth the wait. The Rescue made its debut at the 48th Telluride Film Festival and was widely praised.

When is the Thirteen Lives Release Date?
Originally, Thirteen Lives was planned for a theaters-only release by distribution on April 15. But because of the high test screening results it got, the United Artists Releasing (UAR) venture decided to push the release date to November.
This schedule changed when Amazon Studios acquired MGM in March. This pushed the film to get a limited theater release in July before its global premiere in August 5.
And true enough, the film actually made its premiere last July 29, 2022 in select theaters. A few days after the release, the movie rolled out on Amazon Prime Video where subscribers can currently stream it.
Thirteen Lives Story
While Thirteen Lives is the third movie to cover the real-life events of the rescue mission, it promises to give a more detailed look into the efforts of the volunteers and rescue personnel. The official synopsis of the movie reads:
"Thirteen Lives recounts the incredible true story of the tremendous global effort to rescue a Thai soccer team who become trapped in the Tham Luang cave during an unexpected rainstorm. With impossibly high stakes and the entire world watching, the group embarks on their most challenging dive yet, showcasing the limitlessness of the human spirit in the process."
