After starring in Day Shift, another Jamie Foxx movie is coming out on Netflix soon. The movie, They Cloned Tyrone, was first unveiled by the streaming giant in February 2022 when it showcased its 2022 movie slate. And now, we're getting more information about this sci-fi film.
For starters, it is the directorial debut of Juel Taylor, who is famous for writing the script for Creed 2. He also wrote the script for They Cloned Tyrone together with Tony Rettenmaier.
Here is what we know about the film right now.
They Cloned Tyrone Release Date
The cast and crew started production for the film in November 9, 2020 in Blackhall Studios, Atlanta. Aside from this location, they filmed some scenes in Cape Town, South Africa. Production wrapped up on January 29, 2021 and the movie went into post-production.
And earlier this year, They Cloned Tyrone was included in the Netflix 2022 Movie Preview video. You can see the film at the 1:00-1:01 mark.
At that time time, it was perceived that They Cloned Tyrone would be released in the early parts of the year. But in August 2022, the movie was not included in Netflix's Fall 2022 lineup. Reports later circulated that the movie was no longer getting a 2022 release.
In September 2022 The New York Times reported that the movie will be released on December 30, 2022. Netflix has not yet confirmed this release date so we cannot be certain that it is the movie's release date.
It's possible that we'll get more information about They Cloned Tyrone in Netflix's Tudum 2022 Event since the movie has been included in its list of titles.
They Cloned Tyrone Story
The official description of the movie reads:
“A pulpy, sci-fi mystery caper in which an unlikely trio investigates a series of eerie events, alerting them to a nefarious conspiracy lurking directly beneath their hood. Fontaine, a neighborhood drug dealer, is shot dead by rival Isaac and then is very shocked to wake up in his bed the next morning unharmed. He and Slick Charles and Yo-Yo begin looking into the incident, and their search eventually leads them to a vast underground complex where a government – backed lab is performing experiments on the local Black population. Realizing that he is an artificial clone controlled by Nixon, Fontaine initially feels despair, but decides he needs to stand up to these white institutional overlords for the sake of his neighborhood.”
