The Wheel of Time Season 2 has wrapped up its filming. But unfortunately, the fantasy series is not slated for a release anytime soon.
For some time now, the show's creators have confirmed that Season 2 is underway. The Wheel of Time has been renewed for a second season before Season 1 even started streaming on Amazon Prime Video in November 2021. Because of the immense success of Season 1, the show has catapulted itself as the most-watched series on the streaming service.
The Wheel of Time Season 2 Release Date
To mark the end of filming, Amazon has unveiled a behind-the-scenes teaser video that documents the cast's journey to making Season 2. The video looks at new locations that we can expect to see once the series returns to the streaming service. Additionally, the teaser gives a glimpse of some pretty epic action scenes.
While this is merely a teaser video, the release date for The Wheel of Time Season 2 has not yet been revealed. Tom's Guide believes the series could be released in late autumn after Amazon puts a short break between it and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
And considering Season 1 was released in November 2021, a similar release could be possible. But then again, Vernon Sanders, Amazon Studios' Head of Global TV has hinted at a release around Christmas.
In an interview with TVLine, Sanders said that they "are going to be really thoughtful about how we release these shows. In our minds, they are very different shows, but we are cognizant of our genre fans. It's really true. But Wheel of Time has been really important for us, and to see that it has done so well for us in 2021, I keep saying, 'It's the Christmas gift that keeps giving.'"
While we wait for an official announcement on The Wheel of Time Season 2's release date, you can check out the behind-the-scenes teaser video here:
The Wheel of Time Season 2 Cast: Who's Back & Who's Not
Although we don't know much about The Wheel of Time Season 2 storyline right now, it may be in line with the books. And this also means that the show will be expanding the characters in the upcoming season.
In a nutshell, most of the main cast members are returning for Season 2. The only one we won't be seeing in Season 2 is Barney Harris (as Mat Cauthon). Harris left the show in the middle of Season 1 production. His character will be replaced by Dónal Finn (from The Witcher).

How Many Episodes of The Wheel of Time Season 2 Will There Be?
Following the previous season, The Wheel of Time Season 2 will have a total of eight episodes. Except for the pilot episode, the full episode list for Season 2 has not yet been released. The title and director for episode one were revealed on the show's official Twitter account.
Another report from Deadline reveals that Sanaa Hamri will be directing half of the episode. But as seen in the tweet, the first episode will be directed by Amanda Kate Shuman. This episode is entitled A Taste of Solitude, which is a chapter title that can be found in the sixth book.
The Wheel of Time Season 2 Plot
On the Empire Spoiler Special Film Podcast, Rafe Judkins revealed that The Wheel of Time Season 2 will weave together storylines from The Great Hunt (Book Two) and The Dragon Reborn (Book Three).
Like other series that have been adapted from books, The Wheel of Time doesn't follow the books exactly as they were written. The episodes have been written to better fit into the TV format. One important change that the writers made was to increase the appearances of Moiraine (Pike) and Lan (Henney) together. In book two, the two characters only appear in one chapter. This will hinder the skills of the two main characters of the series.
So far, this is all we know about the storyline of Season 2. But we'll update this post once more information becomes available.
