We expect The Wheel of Time Season 2 to focus on the second book in Robert Jordan's series, The Great Hunt - but there will likely be significant changes.

The first The Wheel of Time season made a number of changes to the source material, making the main characters a bit older and more mature and opting for an ensemble cast instead of focusing on a single chosen one or Dragon Reborn.

The second book in the long novel series follows Egwene and Nynaeve as they train to become Aes Sedai, and Rand meets someone he'd presumed dead as he, Mat and Perrin join a quest to retrieve the Horn of Valere.

The Great Hunt culminates with the invasion of an exotic army - which we saw at the ending of The Wheel of Time Season 1. This suggests that the new Season is also likely to borrow elements from the series' third book, The Dragon Reborn.

It is no secret that Mat has been recast with Dónal Finn taking over the role, but this is not the only reason we expect the group dynamics to shift once more.

The previous season ended with Mat having abandoned his friends who journeyed to the Eye of the World. It is suggested that he's not fully healed from the evils of his cursed dagger, meaning that he might need more help to become himself again.

Moiraine is also expected to play a different role compared to the books, as she has lost touch with her powers, and it's currently not known how the writers will choose to navigate this moving forward.

On the 18th of May 2022, the official Twitter account of the fantasy series released a short teaser that provided a glimpse of the set, along with an announcement that filming for Season 2 had come to an end.

Savy fans pointed out that one filming location appears dessert-like, suggesting that we might get to see the Aeil Waste.

This location is only introduced in the fourth book The Shadow Rising, making it even harder to decipher exactly which story the creators are trying to tell.

Book 3 focuses on Rand quite a lot, mostly through the eyes of those who want to help or thwart the Dragon Reborn. A miniature of this was seen in the last episode of Season 1 - with many things changed, of course.

From the few hints we have so far, we assume that The Wheel of Time Season 2 will be a mixture of books in the source novel series, along with original storytelling stemming from changes already made. It's too early to draw any conclusions until we at least have a trailer - hopefully soon!
