The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is getting ready for a release pretty soon. In fact, you won't have to wait too long to watch the new series from Amazon Studios. The release also marks the 20th anniversary of The Fellowship of the Ring.
The series serves as a prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy that we've come to know and love. Unlike the books, LOTR: Rings of Power is set in the Second Age.

The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Release Date
In January, Amazon revealed the title of the upcoming series. Shortly after that, it was announced that The LOTR: Rings of Power will be released on Amazon Prime Video on September 2, 2022.
The series was first announced in 2017 but only started production in 2020. Then there was the Covid-19 outbreak, which forced filming to pause due to global restrictions. The crew was able to resume filming in the summer of 2020 until the middle of 2021.
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Season 1 was filmed in New Zealand, which pays tribute to the work of Peter Jackson. But with the confirmed The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Season 2, the show will relocate production to the UK.
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Story: What to Expect
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power story is set in the Second Age of Middle-Earth. In contrast, the previous films, The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit were set at the end of the Third Age. The timeline of the series reveals how Sauron managed to gain control of Middle-Earth and leave it to the chaotic world we've come to know in the films.
Considering that the Second Age period lasted thousands of years, there are a lot of potential stories for Amazon to explore. And looking back at the material written by J.R.R. Tolkien, the series could be many different things. What we do know though is that Amazon was only allowed to use an indistinct idea from what was presented in the movies. It's exciting to see how this series will pave the way for Peter Jackson's iconic Lord of the Rings film franchise.
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Cast
Since The LOTR: Rings of Power has an entirely different timeline than the books, we won't get to see some of the original cast members. The confirmed cast includes the following:

- Benjamin Walker (as High King Gil-galad)
- Daniel Weyman (as The Stranger)

The other cast members include Joseph Mawle, Ema Horvath, Dylan Smith, Daniel Weyman, Tyroe Muhafidin, and many others.
Amazon announced The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power characters by releasing 23 character posters.
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Crew & Episodes
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power showrunners are J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. They lead an experienced writing team with Gennifer Hutchison (from Breaking Bad), Helen Shang (from Hannibal), and many others.
There will be a total of eight episodes in The LOTR: Rings of Power Season 1. The show has already confirmed that there will be several directors working on the series. The first two episodes will be directed by J.A. Bayona (from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom). The succeeding four episodes will be directed by Wayne Che Yip (from The Wheel of Time and Doctor Who). And finally, Charlotte Brändström (from The Witcher) will direct the last two episodes.

Will there be succeeding seasons for the series? Right now, all we know is that The LOTR: Rings of Power Season 2 has been confirmed. Warner Bros. Animation and New Line Cinema also announced that they will be working on a CG anime movie called The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, which will be directed by Kenji Kamiyama (from Ultraman).
Is there a The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Trailer Online?
Yes! Amazon Studios released the main trailer for the series on July 14. A previous trailer for the series was also released on February 13 at the Super Bowl.
The new trailer gives a quick look at some of the faces we'll be seeing throughout the series, as well as some cryptic shots of Galadriel (Clark).
The series is set to be released on September 2, 2022 and will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
