When Is Meghan Markle on The Ellen DeGeneres Show?

After an explosive sit-down with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, Meghan Markle guested on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in November of the same year. Prince Harry’s wife held her first TV interview after leaving the U.K.

Compared to the Sussexes’ talk with Oprah, Meghan’s discussion with DeGeneres was more relaxed. Here, she didn’t make any bombshell revelations about the royal family. Instead, the Duchess of Sussex talked about how happy their lives were in California, her friendship with the show’s host, and she even pulled a prank.

After being dragged into the mud by the tabloids and British media, the former actress showed she was just as normal as everybody.

However, some questioned her choice to hold her first TV interview on Ellen, considering the toxic work environment issues surrounding the show at the time.

According to Washington Post, it was a “basic Hollywood practice.” And as a celebrity who had been friends with the star, it was already common to just ignore all the criticisms and continue life as usual.

It was the case between Meghan and DeGeneres, who had been friends for years.

In fact, it was revealed that they had been pals for a very long time when the TV personality persuaded the former “Suits” star to adopt one of her dogs before she even joined the royal family when she was still an actress.

“You just looked at me and said, ‘Are you getting that dog? … You have to take it home,’” Meghan told the audience, remembering how they bumped into each other at a rescue shelter. “And I said, ‘Well, if Ellen says I have to take it home, I’m getting this dog.’”

After stepping down from their senior royal roles and holding an explosive interview with Oprah, Meghan told DeGeneres they were “just happy” about their new lives in Montecito, California.

She even said her husband loved California despite the news that he was removed from his family and friends after leaving the monarchy.

"We've been able to spend a lot of time at home and creating our home—but I think it's just the lifestyle and, you know, the weather's pretty great,” she said.

The Celebrity Prank

And just like any celebrities who appeared on Ellen, Meghan did the show’s celebrity ritual of pulling a prank on an innocent person.

The duchess donned an earpiece and approached a vendor on the Warner Bros. lot as DeGeneres instructed her to make weird noises, sing, and eat hot sauce. She was also asked to refer to herself as “mommy” multiple times, and she successfully did the stint.
