It has been a big question to many as to where Prince Harry inherited his ginger hair when none of his parents, Princess Diana and King Charles, are redheads.
The Duke of Sussex has even passed his signature red hair to his kids, Archie Harrison and Lilibet Diana, proving the ginger gene is strong.
Archie, Lilibet Inheriting Their Dad’s Ginger Hair
In his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote his memoir, Spare, on its release date on January 10, Meghan Markle’s husband made a joke about how his kids inherited his iconic red hair.
The host showed the 2021 Christmas card o the family of four, calling it a “lovely family photo.”
"Here's another lovely family photo. Your daughter, Lilibet, your son, Archie, of course, your wife, Meghan. Your daughter Lilibet is named in her honor," Colbert said, referencing the late Queen Elizabeth II.

"Having children helps us remember those that we've lost,” he continued. “Do you see your mother or your grandparents in any of your children?"
"Definitely my mum,” Prince Harry responded. “The ginger gene is a strong one!"
"Look at that. Both of them are redheads," Colbert stressed.
"The Spencer gene is very, very strong," Prince Harry explained. "I actually really, genuinely thought at the beginning of my relationship [with Meghan] that should this go the distance and we have kids that there's no way the ginger gene will stand up to my wife's genes, but I was wrong!"
"Go, gingers," he cheered.
The Spencers’ Red Hair
It has been known that all of Princess Diana’s three siblings, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, and Charles, 9th Earl Spencer, are natural redheads.
Prince Harry even made fun of his hair color while recalling the beginnings of his relationship with Meghan in the docuseries Harry & Meghan.

"I remember my family first meeting her and being incredibly impressed. Some of them didn't quite know what to do with themselves," he stated. "I think they were surprised. Maybe surprised that a ginger could land such a beautiful woman and such an intelligent woman."
Prince Harry’s Resemblance with Prince Philip
Aside from the Spencers, Prince Harry may have also inherited the ginger hair of his late grandfather, Prince Philip.

When an old photo of the Duke of Edinburgh surfaced when he died in April 2021, it showed that Queen Elizabeth’s husband had uncanny similarities with their grandson.
In fact, one fan said they had the same pale blue eyes, red beards, and mischievous smiles.
