The classic move starred Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna, Rosie O'Donnell, Lori Petty, and many more. The screenplay was written by Babaloo Mandel and Lowell Ganz from Kelly Candaele and Kim Wilson's stories.
The new series is actually considered as a spiritual spin-off or reimagining of the 1992 film. While the series features the same All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL), its characters aren't the same and are not connected to the classic film.
Is A League of Their Own Based on a True Story?
Not entirely. Both the movie and the series based the plot on the lives of the actual female ball players of the All-American Girl Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). The league actually started to keep the pastime alive at a time when the men were called to serve during the second World War.
