The movie started filming on December 12, 2021 and finished filming on January 21, 2022. Netflix made the announcement that it will be releasing the film in October 2022. However, an exact date has not yet been announced.

20th Century Girl's official logline on Netflix reads:
"In 1999– the last year of the 20th century – 17-year-old Bo-ra finds her first love: a sweet, pure but heartbreaking relationship. Years later in the 21st century, news about her first love revives her teenage romance that she thought had been forgotten."
The film follows recent Netflix shows that have been set in the past like Stranger Things and Seoul Vibe.
The BBFC has given 20th Century Girl a PG rating with warnings for language, sexual images, violence, and threats.
