Solo Leveling is currently one of the most popular Korean fantasy works, with thousands of fans waiting eagerly for the manhwa to be updated every week. The amazing art and story by Chugong have won the hearts of many readers, and, if you haven't checked out Solo Leveling yet the hype might tempt you! So, where did it all begin? Below, we explain when I Alone Level Up was first released:

First, a short overview. Solo Leveling takes place in the modern world, which, however, is plagued by the appearance of portals, known as gates. These connect the human world to the world of monsters, making the earth fertile ground for the Monarchs, who want to take over.

Following this supernatural phenomenon, some humans acquired magical powers and became hunters to protect mankind. One of them is Sung Jin-Woo, mockingly known as the world's weakest hunter due to his low stamina and many failures.

Things look up for Jin-Woo when he nearly dies in a dungeon, but miraculously awakens with the ability to break the hunter world's third wall, so to speak. As Solo Leveling operates in an RPG-like way, with levels and powers to be acquired, Jin-Woo finally unlocks a way to keep leveling up instantly. Now known as the Monarch of Shadows, Jin-Woo is, perhaps the only one who can defend the world against the Monarchs.

If you are looking to go back to where it all started, Jin-Woo's adventure began on July 25, 2016 – when the web novel first appeared on Kakao Page. Later, it was published by D & C Media.

Later, on the 4th of March 2018, a Solo Leveling webtoon commenced serialization. The webtoon or manhwa is currently ongoing and at its second "season" (a term preferred to "chapter" for this particular work.)

While the web novel is completed, we can't know just when the webtoon will end – but given the series' success, it's likely that this is not the last we've seen of Solo Leveling as an animated adaptation can't be ruled out in the future.
