Created by writer Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quitely, Cassandra is a unique and unsettling villain who first appeared in New X-Men #114 (July 2001). However, one thing that sets her apart from other X-Men villains is her dark connection with Charles Xavier.

Morrison's imagination redefined the “evil twin” concept, presenting Cassandra as a Mummudrai—a shadowy astral entity of Charles Xavier.

Originating in the same womb as Xavier, she was a formless entity who copied her brother's DNA to create a physical body. Attempting to strangle her twin brother with their mother's umbilical cord, Cassandra was thwarted by Xavier’s emerging psychic powers, resulting in her stillbirth.

While the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine gives us just a glimpse of Cassandra's role, her brief appearance hints at a character who is both enigmatic and dangerous. With a simple line, “Boys are so silly,” she exudes a sense of mischief and malice.

Given the fluid nature of the MCU's storytelling, there's a chance that Cassandra's background may differ from her comic book counterpart. She might be an alternate universe version of Charles Xavier, especially with the multiverse direction the MCU is currently headed.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has always been vocal about the studio's careful approach to introducing mutants into the MCU. In a 2022 interview with Entertainment Weekly, he emphasised the importance of timing and execution when integrating the X-Men into Marvel's cinematic landscape.

“The X-Men are as solid and as rich and as a great a concept in characters as exist,” Feige shared. Feige's connection to the X-Men runs deep. Early in his producing career, he worked on X-Men, X2, and X-Men: The Last Stand, and he often mentions that Marvel's mutants are among his favourite comic book characters.

With the popularity of X-Men ‘97 and the introduction of Cassandra Nova in Deadpool & Wolverine, fans can only wait and see what surprises the studio has in store as it explores the rich and diverse world of the X-Men within the MCU.
