Nezuko was turned into a demon by Muzan, the King of Demons. He personally went to the Kamado residence, looking for the ideal demon.
The rest of the family didn’t survive, which eventually led to a brutal massacre, leaving Nezuko the only survivor. What Tanjiro did not expect was that she was turned into a demon.

What Makes Nezuko Different From Other Demons in Demon Slayer?
Nezuko is the only demon who is resistant to sunlight, which is the main objective of Muzan. He needed a demon with this ability that can provide him with an enjoyable immortal life.
Nezuko still has her human consciousness even in her demonic state, which is another rare case.
These are not the only two reasons Nezuko was different from other demons. Since Tanjiro prevented her from eating humans and Urokodaki trained her that humans are her family, Nezuko rely on sleep to re-charge herself.
Normally, demons would hunt for humans to get energy but Nezuko would just sleep for months.
Her abilities range from size manipulation to superhuman strength. Even if she was not part of the Twelve Kizuki, Nezuko was considered a strong demon.
It might be because she received a huge amount of blood from Muzan or she was just special right from the start. She has amazing growth throughout the series, much like her brother.
When she discovered her Exploding Blood Demon Art, she became even stronger than before. In this ability, she can use her blood as a form of grenades. But the twist is that this ability can only harm demons instead of humans. It can also enhance Tanjiro’s sword and improve his overall abilities.
Together, Tanjiro and Nezuko are a strong duo. They might be young as compared with other demon slayers and demons but they have grown so much during the various training and missions.
