Loki started as a real bad guy in the MCU but throughout the films he has appeared on, he finally became the hero he wanted since the start. His tenure was cut short though, almost, when he faced his demise on the hands of the Mad Titan, but he found another way through as his 2012-self escaped with the tesseract and basically made a wave through time, possibly altering everything ahead of time.

This made the Time Variance Authority aware and as he was apprehended, the God of Mischief would now need to pay for his crimes, now against time itself, and he would have to earn the trust of TVA so as not to have his face deleted or have a bigger threat come along his way. In his very own canon series, Loki is back with another adventure in the MCU.
