Delicious in Dungeon is one of the most unique anime series to drop on Netflix. It is home to some of the craziest, most bizarre, and even mouth-watering monsters. So, let’s have a look at the weirdest monsters featured in the Delicious in Dungeon anime so far.

  1. Undine

First on our list is Undine, a spirit-type monster. Undine appears as a sentient mass of water that can move independently.

In reality, they are colonies of microscopic water spirits that have grown large enough to be visible to the naked eye.

It is believed that they achieve this form due to high concentrations of magical energy in their surroundings.

In terms of culinary consumption, Undines are rich in magical energy and can be consumed in emergencies to replenish one’s magical reserves.

However, they must be ingested quickly and in large quantities, as their magical energy is difficult to absorb, and most of it is excreted by the body.

  2. Barometz

Barometz is a unique plant-type monster. A mature Barometz resembles a sheep emerging from a middle stalk, covered with fern-like leaves extending outward.

The sheep-like part is the plant’s fully ripened fruit. Internally, this fruit mimics the structure of a sheep, but with fused organs and unusually soft bones.

Barometz are gentle monsters that do not pose a threat to others. However, they attract carnivorous monsters that seek their fruit.

Both ripe and unripe Barometz fruit are edible. When cooked, the flesh of the sheep-like portion of the fruit tastes similar to crab.

  3. Nightmare

This dragon-type monster lives up to its name because of its bizarre appearance, which is nothing short of a bad dream.

Nightmares lurk within pillows, controlling those who sleep to inflict bad dreams and feed on their emotions.

They are particularly drawn to emotional wounds, such as those caused by stress or traumatic events, and will exacerbate these memories to intensify the nightmares.

If a person becomes trapped in their dream, they will gradually weaken and eventually perish.

Nightmares can be cooked similarly to mollusk. When placed in hot water for a short time, they will expel the dirt and grime inside them.

  4. Living Armor

A shellfish-type monster, Living Armor looks like a hollow suit of armor that moves autonomously.

Until recently, they were believed to be actual armor animated by an unknown sorcerer.

However, it has been discovered that they are, in fact, a type of mollusk that mimics armor.

These creatures are composed of colonies of individuals that unite as they age, linking their bodies together and moving by contracting like muscles.

Living Armor can be cooked similarly to mollusks. If the helmet is cooked whole, the smell gets trapped inside, resulting in a musty flavor.

  5. Dullahan

Dullahan are headless knight spirits that belong to the undead-type monster family. They are the harbingers of death and look like a massive headless suit of armor.

Dullahan are known to wield a broadsword and a whip and are usually seen riding a horse. Dullahan are inedible, as they are spirits wearing armor.

  6. Hag

A hag is a magical creature monster made of paper. They take the shape of a big humanoid with long hair and a face resembling an oni.

Hags are the result of a spell by Maizuru, which was originally intended to find Shuro when he would hide when he was young.

They manifest only after specific activation conditions are met and are fervently focused on their task.

  7. Falin Chimera

Falin Chimera is a tall monster that has Falin's upper body and the Red Dragon's lower body with white-feathered wings.

The Falin Chimera possesses the strength of a dragon, the ability to chant spells, and the intelligence to speak briefly while following the orders of the Lunatic Magician.

Even when immobilized, she can still use magic. However, in areas with low mana, she struggles to move, much like a person deprived of air.

The breast and liver meat of the Falin Chimera can be baked into a pie.

Her intestines and blood can be turned into sausages, while the shank and tail meat are ideal for boiling into a stew.

The dragon meat from the Falin Chimera can also be baked into a gratin, served over a bowl of rice, or boiled in a cream stew.

  8. Living Painting

Living Paintings are unusual because they are considered monsters, though they are a kind of illusion spell that manifests as painted pictures.

At first glance, they appear to be ordinary paintings, but the images within them can move. Any drawings added to these Living Paintings will also come to life.

The food showcased in Living Paintings has no culinary use, as it cannot be taken out of the painting.
