Who Is Thistle in Delicious in Dungeon? His Appearances So Far, Explained
In the premiere episode of Delicious in Dungeon, a king arrives unannounced in a little village, claiming that a mad magician has taken control of his once-glorious kingdom.
To save the kingdom, the king offered everything he owned, including the kingdom itself, to the person who could bring down the insane magician.
The king eventually turned to dust and vanished for good before anyone could complete this task. The king's name is Delgal, and the insane magician in question is Thistle himself.
Thistle then makes his official debut in Delicious in Dungeon episode 6, Court Cuisine: Boiled in Salt Water, when a hungry Laios angers an unsettling elf while searching for food inside the Living Paintings.
Laios comes across Thistle in every living painting he enters, and Thistle always has a threatening glare in his eyes when they meet.
As it turns out, Thistle is convinced that Laios will do something to harm Delgal, hence the reaction.
Thistle would return in episode 12 after learning of the Red Dragon's demise.
He was the Red Dragon's master, and he was furious that the dragon's soul had been joined with a tall-man such as Falin because of Marcille's dark arts.
Thistle then used ancient arts to transform Falin into a chimera, claiming that her tall-man form interferes with her mission to find King Delgal.

In the anime, Thistle wants all of the monsters under his command to find King Delgal at all costs.
He has been obsessing about King Delgal throughout the series since they grew up together like real brothers after the former king took him in as the court’s jester.
At some point, Delgal encouraged Thistle to study magic in the hopes that he would become a very capable and exceptional magic user, unaware that his close friend would be able to learn about ancient magic and the dark arts.
As a result, Thistle succumbs to darkness, leading to the creation of the dungeon and the curse of immortality.
Worse, Thistle imprisons the Winged Lion, Golden Country's guardian.
King Delgal eventually discovers a way to resurface and seek assistance, but Thistle kills those who assisted him in the process.
Thus, the villagers learned of the king's story and the presence of the dungeon, and the rest is history.
