Everybody loves to read and watch films about heroic dogs, especially if they're based on a true story. So when producers decided to create a movie honoring the memory of Togo, many couldn't help but ask why Balto is the more famous dog from the heroic run.

Togo is a true story based on the Siberian Husky who led a pack of sled dogs to deliver an antitoxin during an outbreak in 1925. The events of that heroic run has been referred to as the "1925 serum run to Nome" or the "Great Race of Mercy."

Togo led other sled dogs across hundreds of miles so he could deliver diphtheria antitoxin to Nome, Alaska.

Is the Film Togo on Netflix?

Since Togo is a Disney+ film, it is not available on Netflix. The Togo film available on Netflix is a Uruguay production with a completely different story.

Disney's Togo film made its theatrical debut last December 19, 2019. The following day, the film was released on Disney+.

This seems to be a common question that people have about Togo. Many even ask why Balto is the more famous dog compared to Togo.

According to historians, the real hero of the iconic 1925 serum run was 12-year-old Togo. The Siberian Husky led his pack through 260 miles of a blizzard so they could deliver an antitoxin to a small Alaskan town.

The reason why Balto is more famous is because he led the last 55 miles of the journey. But it's about time the real hero of the event is recognized.

Where Did They Film Togo?

Although the real event happened in Alaska, the film, Togo, was shot mostly in Cochrane, Alberta. They started filming on September 21, 2018 and wrapped up by February 2019.

Most of the dogs included in the film were from The Snowy Owl Sled Dog Tours Inc. kennel situated in Canmore, AB.

How Old Was Togo When He Died?

After the historic sled run, Togo lived in Poland Spring, Maine where he retired until the age of 16. He was euthanized.

After his death, Seppala had the famous dog custom mounted. You can still see his mounted skin at the Shelbourne Museum in Vermont.
