Robert Downey Jr. is synonymous with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that's a stone-cold fact and it's almost hard to imagine seeing him play a different superhero other than Iron Man, a role casuals and diehard fans have long associated him with. Of course, RDJ is now enjoying his time away from the Marvel realm and as of now, it looks like he's exploring his options career-wise.

Downey has proven his allegiance to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and even though he's no longer contractually obligated to be involved in the franchise, his loyalty remains to his home turf. But what if the Tony Stark actor defected to the other team and joined Marvel's longtime "rival" DC?

According to a new scoop from insider Daniel Richtman (via Patreon), Warner Bros. is adamant about getting the services of RDJ in an undisclosed project in the DC Extended Universe. Richtman says that WB is trying its best to persuade Robert into joining the franchise which could mean that the production company has already reached out to the actor and made him an offer.

The question of course is, will he take it? Downey's aforementioned "loyalty" to Marvel Studios could be a factor in him turning it down but it's also worth noting that he's involved in the production of Netflix's Sweet Tooth project, a character that is under the DC Comics umbrella so I guess, you can never say never. Let's see what actually happens because after all, this is still just a rumor.

Speaking of the DCEU, Zack Snyder's Justice League hits HBO Max on March 18.
