Ryan Gosling has once again opened up about the long-standing rumor that he will be playing Ghost Rider in the MCU, and his new update may surprise some fans.

For the last few years, there have been rumors and speculations online that the Project Hail Mary star is being eyed to play the MCU version of Ghost Rider. So far, Marvel Studios has not confirmed the long-standing rumor, nor have they announced any plan to introduce Ghost Rider in their universe anytime soon. Still, fans are hoping that it will happen at some point.

In a recent interview on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast (via EW), Gosling was asked about the ongoing rumors that he is playing Ghost Rider in the MCU and whether he is interested in taking on the role.

Not only has he expressed interest in playing the character, but he has also confirmed that he has already had discussions with Marvel Studios. However, the status of potentially joining the MCU has been "complicated."

"Some discussions have been had. It's a complicated situation," he said coyly.

When Horowitz brought up that his partner Eva Mendes co-starred in the first Ghost Rider movie starring Nicolas Cage, Gosling responded, "I'm just happy one of us got to do it."

While the Robbie Reyes iteration of Ghost Rider was introduced in Agents of SHIELD (which is not seen as part of the MCU canon), the main MCU timeline has yet to introduce or give hints to the eventual arrival of Ghost Rider. Will Gosling become the face of that character? Only time will tell.
