Virgin River Season 4 finale has left fans with a lot of questions that need some answers. Fortunately, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith gives fans ideas on what may happen next to Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge), Jack (Martin Henderson) and Preacher (Colin Lawrence) in Virgin River Season 5.

The previous season had several cliffhangers, from Mel and Jack’s marriage to Mel’s pregnancy and more. Thankfully, Smith answers some of these mysteries about Virgin River Season 5, though he’s very careful not to give away anything.

Jack and Mel’s Marriage

Many fans want to know if Jack and Mel will finally get married. So, will it happen next season?

“We don’t want things to ever feel like they’re stalled, but we also want to enjoy [their engagement] while we can,” he told TVLine. “So we’re moving at that pace with all of the things they have ahead of them, anticipating [a wedding] down the road.”

Mel’s Pregnancy

The previous season revealed Mel is pregnant with Jack’s baby. But given the show’s slow story transition—Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) has been pregnant since the first season—when will Mel give birth?

“We want things to keep flowing, and it’s hard to find time jumps within that, but I am trying to expand the timeline as organically as possible without it feeling like a departure,” Smith added.

Smith even confirmed that Virgin River Season 5 would continue where Season 4 left off, so there might be no time jump.

The Life Preacher Wants

After Preacher’s encounter with Vince (Steve Bacic) in the fourth season finale, will he now live the life that he wants in Virgin River Season 5?

Sadly, there are things he still has to consider before he can finally move on.

“I love his character so much, because he’s so unique to television. You don’t see a lot of men with such a sense of honor and purpose and truth. That definitely finds his way into his relationships,” Smith added. “How Paige and Christopher fit into in his life will be addressed in Season 5. Then he also has Julia, who’s kind of waiting in the wings.”

Smith continued that Preacher had a lot of ladies waiting for him, so no one knew which way he would go. Despite that, he promised they would go deeper into his non-romantic life.

“We don’t know a lot about him. We’d love to see him interact with other characters he hasn’t yet,” he stated.

What Can Smith Say About Virgin River Season 5?

Without giving anything away, Smith said fans are about to witness “new and exciting” things. Despite that, the show will still feel like the series fans have loved for the past four seasons.

However, they’re about to take “a more exciting approach” to some of its stories.

“A little bit louder, but not to the detriment of the comfort of the show,” Smith told Glamour. “I want it to feel like season five will be next-level.”
