Vincent D'Onofrio on Kingpin's Fate During the Avengers Blip: "I Think He Lost His Power."

In a chat with Comicbook.com, Vincent D’Onofrio was asked what happened to Kingpin during the blip and he thinks there is a hint that he might have been one of those unfortunate souls who perished for five years, he said, "I think he lost his power. I think that his empire fell because all this otherworldly stuff was going on."

D’Onofrio seemingly hints that the powerful crime lord has been given the chance to expand his empire but with some stuff going on with unearthly matters, he wasn’t able to do so, “Given the opportunity, he might have been able to even grow his empire during that stage, but he wasn't given that opportunity. So I think, as far as Hawkeye goes, he's on his way back, to grabbing back what is his.”

D’Onofrio added, “It's clear, I think, from the scene with Vera [Farmiga] and the scene with [Alaqua Cox's] Maya, all the scenes with Maya, that his mind is set on being the king so that's what he's gonna be.”

Vincent D’Onofrio last appeared in the third season of Netflix’s Daredevil and with his debut in the MCU and Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock also making his entry in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it is expected that the two will be meeting each other again, this time, within the MCU canon. While it is yet to be confirmed whether the Daredevil series on Netflix becomes canon or not, having both of them is enough to excite fans of the show.

In the finale of Hawkeye, Kingpin had a tough fight when he faced Kate Bishop alone in something that looks like a toy store. He seemed invincible at first, not caring how many arrows puncture his skin as if he doesn’t get hurt at all. He even cornered Kate and broke all the arrows that she had. Thankfully, an electro-magnetic arrow saves the day and it didn’t fail Kate at all.

By the end of the episode, a wounded Kingpin walks on the streets of New York when he encountered Maya, now enlightened with everything, held a gun on her hand and Kingpin tried to negotiate as he described that families, sometimes, gets into a mess that one carries for the other. When Maya was about to get his hand up to the face of Kingpin carrying a gun, the camera pans as well and a shooting sound was heard, not even showing whether Maya successfully killed Kingpin.

With his MCU future still in question, it’s too early to conclude that he died but many are looking at the possibility of him remaining alive, giving a tough problem to the new heroes of the post-blip.

Hawkeye is now streaming on Disney Plus.
