Transformers’ Bumblebee Spinoff Finds Writer, on the Hunt for a Director

Transformers was supposed to end as a trilogy. But it seems that Michael Bay wants to keep the franchise very much open and ongoing to the point of achieving something akin to a Transformers Cinematic Universe.

Now this idea may divide fans and moviegoers—after all, you can only watch so many explosions and so many robo-fights on screen. The last entry in the movie-series did turn some heads with the introduction of dino bots, but not much else.

What's more, Paramount has confirmed that spinoff movies will arrive, spearheaded by Bumblebee. But before you give a big sigh, there has been some pretty nice developments, starting with the fact that Christina Hodson has just been added to the roster of talents behind the project. According to Deadline, she managed to turn in a script that will allow Paramount to reach its 2018 deadline.

Because of Hodson's script, things will progress even further once Bumblebee lands a director, though the studio has yet to decide a name for that one.

This isn't the first time that Hodson's name has been linked to an upcoming awaited project. Just recently, she was also tagged to pen the script for DC films' Birds of Prey. While there hasn't yet been an official announcement for this, Birds of Prey is supposed to be the Harley Quinn solo movie, only this time, she will be joined by the female superheroes and super villains of the DC universe.

Hodson's addition to the roster is a definite encouragement for the movie and the business. If things move forward in the same way Hodson's other projects have, we may have something else to look forward to besides the explosions and the autoboots.

Transformers: The Last Knight will be out in theaters on June 23, 2017, while its Bumblebee spinoff will come on June 8, 2018.
