Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 Gets Worrying Update

Spider-Man: No Way Home was a huge success at the box office and, as the ending indicated, it looks like it is all but certain that Tom Holland will return as Spider-Man again in the future. However, since then, we haven't heard any updates regarding his next film and now a report has emerged which suggests that we may still need to wait a little longer for Holland's return.

According to The Ankler's Jeff Sneider (via The Direct), he heard that Holland has not actually signed a deal yet with Sony and Marvel to continue playing the role of Spider-Man in future films although the franchise is still the studio's top priority as they want to move forward with more movies.

"Okay, so Sony may not have the biggest bench in terms of franchises, but it wisely made a deal with Marvel Studios to get its marquee character Spider-Man into the MCU, which helped make the studio’s solo Spidey movies must-sees, even more so," Sneider wrote. "And while plans are in motion for another Spidey trilogy starring Tom Holland, I don’t believe he has actually signed a deal yet, so those plans remain unofficial for now. That said, I’m sure that more Spidey adventures with Holland are a top priority for Rothman & Co., which is also counting on him as the anchor of its budding Uncharted franchise as well."

Producer Amy Pascal has previously stated that they have plans to do another Spider-Man trilogy after No Way Home although nothing official has been set beyond that. Holland has also expressed his interest to continue playing Spider-Man in the future and hinted that they have been discussing it.

It is surprising to hear that Holland has not signed a deal at this point since it's already been seven months since No Way Home was released in theaters and you would think that Sony and Marvel are already working hard on developing the next Spider-Man films. Unfortunately, it looks like that is not the case yet and we still have to wait a little longer before we hear any movement.

However, it doesn't mean that Holland won't be returning to play the role and it is very likely that they are still negotiating the deal as well as figuring out the direction of the character in the next trilogy that he might be doing. It's hard to imagine them not continuing the franchise and we should be hearing more updates regarding the future of Spider-Man in the MCU in the near future.
