Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley's tandem in Chaos Walking is considered by many to be a dream pairing years in the making but little do fans know that the two British stars almost worked together in the Star Wars franchise. Holland actually auditioned to play Finn in Disney's divisive sequel trilogy, a role which he admittedly bombed.

Appearing on First We Feast's hit web series Hot Ones, Holland opened up about blowing his The Force Awakens audition. When asked if he failed to get the Finn role because he couldn't stop laughing during his audition, the Spider-Man: No Way Home star simply clarified that's not the case. In his opinion, John Boyega, who played the character throughout the trilogy was the right actor for the part.

He explained: "I don't think that's the reason why I didn't get the role, I think John Boyega was just better for the role than me. I just remember thinking, 'There's no way this lady's going to read the robot's lines opposite me' – just because that would be ridiculous," he explained. "I don't remember what my line was, but it was [like] 'Let's get back to the Falcon!' and this lady, bless her, would sit there with full commitment and was like, 'Be-boop-be-boop.'"

Obviously, Holland is a completely different actor today than he was several years back and while it's a shame he didn't become part of the Star Wars sequels, I think we can all agree that he dodged a Death Star-sized bullet given the fact that the trilogy wasn't well-received. I'm pretty sure Lucasfilm's doors are open for him and who knows, we might see him in a galaxy far, far away in the future.

Meanwhile, Spider-Man: No Way Home hits cinemas on December 17, 2021.
