The Tokyo Revengers sequels recently found itself in the middle of a controversy after actor Kento Nagayama was arrested for suspected marijuana possession. Since then, there have been rumors that the second half of the two-part films will be delayed as the production might try to distance the movie from the actor.
Tokyo Revengers Addresses Rumored Sequel Delay
The official Tokyo Revengers Twitter account shared the statement from the producers regarding the possible delay of the second part of Tokyo Revengers 2.
"To all of you who have always supported us, after so many discussions, we have decided to release the Part 2 movie Decisive Battle of Tokyo Revengers 2 on Friday, June 30 as scheduled, without any reshoots or re-editing," the statement read.
It also addressed the controversy by thanking those who have been supporting the sequel.
"We have received so many comments and encouragement since the news broke online, and we have been reminded once again that this movie is truly supported by many people," the statement read.
"We have come to the conclusion that it is what we can do to respond to those voices," it added.
"To all the people involved in the production of this movie, who have worked so hard to make it possible for the entire cast and crew to release this movie with all the energy they have," it continued. "We would like to thank all the people involved in the production of this movie, the people in theaters across the country who are showing the movie as scheduled, and above all, everyone who is supporting this movie."
On the evening of June 15, investigators from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department searched Kento Nagayama's apartment in Meguro Ward, Tokyo where they found marijuana. He was then arrested the following day.
Tokyo Revengers: Bloody Halloween - Fate ("Chi no Halloween - Unmei") premiered on April 21, 2023, during Japan's Golden Week. Tokyo Revengers: Bloody Halloween - Decisive Battle ("Chi no Halloween - Kessen") is still scheduled for release on June 30, 2023.
