In just less than one month of anticipation, fans would witness the monumental return of the fan-beloved God of Thunder in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder. Although fans are extremely thrilled to see the return of Chris Hemsworth, who played the character for more than a decade now, this might be the actor's last outing as the OG Avenger Thor.
In a recent interview with WIRED, Thor: Love and Thunder's Chris Hemsworth responded to a bunch of questions including if the upcoming film would be his last outing as the fan-beloved God of Thunder.
"Well the last [Marvel movie] I shot was 'Thor: Love and Thunder' and it might be my last Marvel movie, I don't know," Hemsworth admitted. "It was a wild and fun and wacky experience, as all Taika Waititi movies are. Played that character for ten, eleven, years now, and each time it's been new and exciting, and this was no exception to that. It felt very fresh and it felt like we were trying something we hadn't tried before. I was, in Taika's words, I think a wacky, wild, romantic comedy set in space... I love playing Thor – played it for many many years and would continue to do so if people wanted me to. The most challenging part of playing Thor is reinventing it each time and not having it be predictable for an audience and having it be something they've seen before... And that is a challenge but part of the fun."
Playing the character for eleven long years, of course, Thor still has to come to an end. Despite that, Hemsworth’s Thor is the only original Avenger who got their fourth solo film, so if ever Thor: Love and Thunder would be the actor's last, fans would be grateful as Hemsworth is.
Nevertheless, the uncertainty with Thor's future in the MCU doesn't entirely mean that Thor 5 would never happen. In Marvel Comics, Thor is an extremely substantial character due to his God bloodline, and Marvel Studios could still proceed to explore more storylines for Thor. A few years back, Love and Thunder wasn't even planned for Phase 4, but Hemsworth and Waititi impressively still made it possible. Plainly, for now, both Hemsworth and Waititi are just occupied with their upcoming Marvel film and making Thor 5 is just currently out of the discussion.
Thor: Love and Thunder will premiere in theaters on July 8.
