Thor: Love and Thunder Fans Are Already Campaigning Marvel to #ReleaseTheWaititiCut

The much-anticipated MCU movie Thor: Love and Thunder is finally dominating the box office, with an impressive $302 million in its opening weekend at the global box office.

Helmed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, the fourth Thor film follows Chris Hemsworth's titular hero as the defender of the universe once again going against Christian Bale’s Gorr The Godbutcher, who despises all gods in the universe.

Alongside Hemsworth, the film also sees the comeback of Thor-centric characters like Valkyrie, Korg, the Guardians of the Galaxy crew, and Natalie Portman's return as Jane Foster who is now the possessor of the mighty Mjolnir, claiming the title Lady Thor.

Just a few days following Thor: Love and Thunder's theatrical release, Waititi recently unveiled that the film's director's cut was originally four hours long, which features a lot of deleted scenes. Of course, this buzzed the fans and sparked eagerness to see the original runtime of the film. Now, they are already campaigning on Twitter to #ReleaseTheWaititiCut.

Sadly, the odds of seeing Waititi's original cut of Thor: Love and Thunder looks unattainable at this point. In an interview with NME, the director revealed that he isn't a fan of director's cuts, saying that 'they all suck.' “Director’s cuts are not good,” he said. “I’ve been thinking about director’s cuts. I watch director’s cuts of a lot of other directors. They suck. Director’s cuts are not good. Directors need to be controlled sometimes, and if I was to say, ‘ah, you wanna watch my director’s cut? It’s four and a half hours long!’ It’s not good, at four and a half hours. There’s a lot of cup-of-tea breaks in there, you don’t even have to pause it.”

In times like this, it's worth remembering how DC fans enormously campaigned to release Zack Snyder's Original Cut of 2017's Justice League which was also four hours long. Although it almost looked impossible back then, fans persisted to demand, and just after two years, Warner Bros. eventually decided to release Zack Snyder's Justice League on HBO Max.

For now, fans might interpret Waititi's recent comment about the director's cut of Thor: Love and Thunder as discouraging. But as long as fans continue to show massive enthusiasm about the original version of the film, who knows? Marvel Studios might actually release Waititi’s original cut of Thor: Love and Thunder.

Thor: Love and Thunder is now showing in theaters worldwide.
