There is little doubt that fans are already expecting the return of Jane Foster, this time as The Mighty Thor, in Thor: Love and Thunder. However, there's one person who will not know what hit him. Director Taika Waititi has just confirmed that Jane's return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel will be "a real mindf-ck" for the God of Thunder!

It has already been confirmed that Natalie Portman will be back as Jane Foster in Thor: Love and Thunder. However, Thor himself has no idea what Jane has been up to all this time, let alone realize that she now wields Mjolnir.

“It’s been about eight years,” Taika Waititi told Empire. “She’s had a whole other life, and then the love of your life comes back on the scene, and is now dressed like you. It’s a real mindf-ck for Thor.”

Although it was already confirmed that Portman would reprise her role as Jane, Waititi stated that her transformation into the Mighty Thor wasn't something he originally planned.

“I didn’t know we were going to use the storyline of the Mighty Thor character until we started working out the actual story,” Waititi said. “I was writing and it was like, ‘Wouldn’t it be kind of cool to bring Jane back into the storyline?’”

Interestingly, Waititi then stated that Jane needed a great storyline for her major comeback.

“You don’t want Natalie coming back and playing that same character who’s walking around with science equipment. You know, while Thor’s flying around, she’s left on Earth, tapping her foot going, ‘When’s he going to be back?’ That’s boring. You want her to be part of the adventure.”

Thor: Love and Thunder will mark the first time that Waititi and Portman work together. Portman previously appeared in 2011's Thor and Thor: The Dark World but was notably absent in Thor: Ragnarok.

Thor: Love and Thunder will premiere in theaters on July 8, 2022.
