For the past few months, there have been rumors that Marvel Studios is working on a fifth Thor movie although Taika Waititi is not expected to return as the director following the polarizing reception to Love and Thunder.

While the studio has not confirmed the project as part of their upcoming slate, Waititi did confirm that he won't be returning in the next movie as he is more focused right now on other projects that he's attached to.

There were also reports going around that Rogue One and The Creator director Gareth Edwards is being eyed to take over and helm the fifth Thor movie. No confirmation has also been made yet for that rumor.

Now, the rumored director has finally addressed his potential involvement in the God of Thunder's next MCU movie.

In an interview with BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, Edwards addressed the rumors surrounding his alleged involvement in the fifth Thor movie.

He revealed that he is aware of the rumor and is flattered that his name is attached to it.

"I saw those rumors too. I saw it and I jokingly sent it to my girlfriend. I just texted her the link and said, 'I didn't want you to find out this way.' I’ve never heard anything about it. It’s totally... the internet is an incredible place," he said.

"I love those movies. I love Marvel, a lot of my friends work on Marvel films. I'm very excited about the future of cinema, personally."

"I feel like everything we did differently on The Creator is probably the strongest part of the film," Edwards continued. "And I just want to push that even further, so having the freedom and being able to take risks, being allowed to fail. I think that's all an important part of any creativity."

The director also explained that he is more interested in doing more original science-fiction films although he is also not shutting down the door on the possibility of joining a franchise like the MCU.

"And so I'm very excited about having another go at my own film. I love all the other movies and franchises, I go to see them. I have most of them on my DVD/Blu-ray shelf. But I really want to keep pursuing original sci-fi. Was that a very politically correct answer? I never say never. In the right circumstances, absolutely," he added.

Based on his track record, Edwards is certainly a great choice for the directing job on the fifth Thor movie since he is a talented filmmaker and we know that he can successfully work well on a franchise project as proved by Rogue One and Godzilla.

It sounds like he is willing to join the MCU depending on the creative freedom that Marvel Studios will give him if he gets hired.

Whoever the studio will hire to helm the film, there is a lot of work that needs to be done since they are looking for a fresh new creative direction for the character in his next solo venture.
