This Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Cut Highlights The Only Scenes That Matter

When the Star Wars prequels – Episode I: The Phantom MenaceEpisode II: Attack of the Clones, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith – were released, the movies didn’t receive as much love from fans and critiques alike.

I agree with the majority who thinks the prequels were too long and overstuffed. Well, a new video of 2005’s Revenge of the Sith that popped up two days ago could redeem the movie yet.

Fiveminutesfilms on YouTube created a 5-minute version of the Revenge of the Sith, taking out all the unnecessary scenes that George Lucas probably wouldn’t agree to.

Most of the scenes focus on Anakin Skywalker’s gradual transformation into a Sith, although the very Dark Side scene of Anakin’s slaying of the younglings wasn’t included. There’s also enough Padme in there to represent all the drama that happened in the film.

I admit the video is rather too short, but it did succeed in retaining almost all the essential scenes that adds tension and drama to the third episode. It really isn’t half as bad as the movie. Many YouTubers even think it’s better than the prequels, calling the 5-minute-cut “much better,” “amazing,” and one which has “nice editing.”

While the video ended with the appropriate “Nooooo” from Darth Vader after the Sith Lord has puts on the mask for the first time, I would have preferred seeing Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi saying the disappointed-filled line “you were supposed to be the chosen one.”

Thankfully, Abrams didn’t follow the CGI-dependent theme of Revenge of the Sith when he helmed Star Wars: The Force Awakens. From what we’ve seen in the filming of Episode VIII, it looks like Rian Johnson is using more practical effects as well.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released in all digital platforms on April 1 and on DVD/Blu-Ray on April 5. Star Wars: Episode VIII is slated for release on December 15, 2017.
