The Witcher Showrunner Teases Eskel's 'Huge' Role in Season 2

There is little doubt that fans are already hyped up for The Witcher Season 2 after the release of the new trailer. After all, it gave us an idea of what to look forward to in the Netflix show's second season. Interestingly, it didn't reveal too much about some of the new characters in the series. Still, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich confirms that Eskel will play a "huge" role in the new season this December.

We already know that Eskel will appear in The Witcher Season 2. The character trained alongside Geralt of Rivia under Vesemir and would later become one of Ciri's mentors when she arrives in Kaer Morhen. However, there have been speculations that the Witcher's appearance in the second season will be brief and tragic.

So is it true we'll only see Eskel for a short time in The Witcher Season 2? Hissrich assures fans we'll see plenty of the character later this year.

Hissrich recently took part in a Twitter Q&A after the release of the Witcher Season 2 trailer. One fan wondered if Eskel will have a "decent" role just like Lambert and the showrunner was quick to hype up the new character's arrival.

"Eskel plays a HUGE role, in Geralt’s life and in Kaer Morhen. You’ll get to see it all unfold…" Hissrich wrote.

This is great news considering that fans have been hoping to meet the other Witchers in Season 2. For now, it is unclear how much of Eskel we will see in the second season but here's hoping he will be a major part of the show.

Eskel will be played by Basil Eidenbenz in The Witcher Season 2. Thue Ersted Rasmussen was originally cast for the role but needed to bow out due to scheduling conflicts.

The Witcher Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on December 17, 2021.
