We're already loving The Winchesters ahead of its premiere date on Oct. 11, but throwing in a nice mix of Supernatural cast appearances adds to the hype. And that's exactly what's coming.

Recently, cast members, including Jensen Ackles, the other half of the iconic Sam and Dean duo, participated in a Zoom panel with The Winchesters writer and producer Robbie Thompson. Thompson discussed some upcoming plans as well as how quickly The Winchesters are incorporating Supernatural cast members.

The Winchesters Will Feature Several Cameos From Supernatural

Samantha Smith was playing the late Mary by the time Supernatural premiered, while Jeffrey Dean Morgan was playing John Winchester. Since The Winchesters is set in the 1970s, Drake Rodger and Meg Donnelly play characters from that time period.

However, a few Supernatural characters were alive and well in the 1970s. In the first season, Thompson hinted that he is already working with some of those actors.

"I don't think I can spoil exactly who but we have some very familiar faces that are going to be coming up in an episode that we're going to shoot in a couple of days," Thompson said. "And then some more after that and then some more after that."

Ackles and his wife, Daneel, co-created The Winchesters. He narrates the show and appears in the pilot to provide a Supernatural touch. However, Thompson put Ackles on alert to appear more frequently.

"Hopefully someone that's on this Zoom as well at a certain point," Thompson said. "I'm looking at you, it's Ackles. So yeah, we have plans for that."

Plans for New Actors to Play Young Supernatural Characters

Thompson also proposed a different way for The Winchesters to reimagine some of the Supernatural characters. The Winchesters can recast younger versions of other characters in the same way that Rodger and Donnelly play John and Mary. Of course, some supernatural beings do not age, thus the same actors can play them over and over again. Thompson, on the other hand, has strategies for every possible scenario.

"And we often have plans not just to bring back some of our familiar faces but younger versions of the characters that maybe we haven't seen yet," Thompson said.

Fans of Supernatural should be ecstatic about The Winchesters after all of this. It goes beyond being a Supernatural prequel. It might be an organic spinoff involving Ackles or another well-known cast member, or it might provide previously unknown information about the Winchester family's history as a whole. And that's only Season 1. You won't have to wait long for the key Supernatural references.
