The Walking Dead’s Daryl Also Hated Season 7A

AMC's post-apocalyptic and walker-infested series received a lot of flak when, after an insanely intense and violent premiere episode, everything went downhill. Everyone had an opinion about it, and almost everyone said that it just went from bad to worse with each episode.

It seems that the hate for the first half of The Walking Dead's seventh season wasn't just among fans. Even fan-favorite Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) hated it, too—but not necessarily for the same reason as everyone else.

If you already had a hard time watching the slow pace and compartmentalized episodes, imagine how much harder it was for the actors. And Reedus seems to have taken the brunt of it in a few of the episodes that he had to shoot away from his friends.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he explained that there was a reason for that, and one that also may have resounded within the audience.

"I understand when characters go through certain things, and mostly they're cut off from the rest of the group, but I didn't even see anybody. I was in a hole by myself, naked. It just did not feel right to me… It was supposed to suck and it did suck—for me, anyway."

One thing that we can take comfort in, according to Reedus, is that the hard times are what make the comeback even more profound and special.

And because of that, we're also hoping that it will bring in the essence of what The Walking Dead was before all this testosterone-driven, conquer-everyone mentality took over. It's always been about protecting their own, a family-first approach that has given heart to what all they were doing.

"We missed having the feeling that we had when we started this thing. I mean, I know the show evolves and all of that stuff, but man, that first half was rough, so I'm excited that we're all back together. I know everybody's excited."

And we'll definitely be looking forward to it. The Walking Dead will be back on AMC on Feb. 12.
