The Suicide Squad's Idris Elba Wants Superman vs Bloodsport Project

I think we can all agree that Idris Elba is among the stars who stole the show in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad and after seeing the film, you couldn't help but want more of Robert DuBois aka Bloodsport because he was that good. Now, it's pretty safe to assume that Elba will stick around in the DC Extended Universe and with The Suicide Squad 2 becoming more and more of a possibility, Bloodsport, King Shark, Ratcatcher 2, Peacemaker, and of course Harley Quinn aren't going anywhere.

Even before the film came out, DC fans have been intrigued by DuBois especially after learning that he put Superman in the ICU whom he shot with a Kryptonite bullet. Unfortunately, The Suicide Squad doesn't show us a flashback scene of how it all went down but the idea of it being addressed in a prequel project sounds appealing, so much so that the Thor star would be down to do it.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight along with Ratcatcher 2 actress Daniela Melchior, Elba said that he'd love to explore Bloodsport's history with the Man of Steel leading to his near-death experience. He said: "It wouldn't be next, it would be what came before. I would be really interested to see why he went to jail, why did he shoot Superman? I would love to see that narrative come alive."

I've always believed that Marvel Studios dropped the ball on Idris Elba and it sucks that Heimdall wasn't treated the way he should've been treated in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thankfully, his jump to the DCEU proved to be a smart career decision and I'm genuinely thrilled that James Gunn didn't waste Elba in The Suicide Squad. While I doubt that a "Superman vs Bloodsport" film will happen anytime soon, I still think that great things are in store for him in the franchise.

The Suicide Squad is now showing in cinemas. It's also available for streaming on HBO Max.
