The Suicide Squad: James Gunn Says Starro is Not the Only Villain in DCEU Flick

There is little doubt that the trailer for The Suicide Squad has already confirmed that Starro will be the main villain in the film. However, it looks like the gigantic telepathic starfish isn't the only baddie who will show up in the DC Extended Universe flick. James Gunn has just teased that there will be multiple villains in the highly anticipated movie.

For a long time, the premise of The Suicide Squad was a huge mystery although fans suspected that Amanda Waller will be rounding up a new Task Force X for a dangerous mission. Interestingly, the trailer for the DCEU film confirmed that the new plan will send the team off to a country ruled by a mad dictator who may be working with Starro.

But why Starro in the first place? Gunn told Den of Geek that he has always been a character he was interested in.

"Starro is hilarious because he's ridiculous. He's a giant, cerulean blue starfish, but he's also fucking terrifying," Gunn said. He then explained that Starro was a character that terrified him when he was a child then somehow confirmed that the celestial starfish isn't the only bad guy in The Suicide Squad.

"When I was a kid I thought that was the scariest thing of all time… and I think that exemplifies what this movie is: it is ridiculous and it's also terrifying, and serious. So he works really well as the villain of the movie—as one of the villains, actually," Gunn said.

Now that's an interesting revelation considering that anyone is suspect in the film. Of course, there's a possibility that the other villain is the dictator Silvio Luna, who is played by Juan Diego Botto. Nevertheless, we are keeping our eyes peeled on the other possible baddies in the film.

The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Idris Elba, John Cena, Peter Capaldi, Nathan Fillion, Sylvester Stallone, David Dastmalchian, and many more. The film will premiere in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6, 2021.
