The Silent Sea Shock: Bae Doo Na, Gong Yoo Open Up About Struggles While Filming New Netflix Drama

The Silent Sea will make Netflix subscribers' Christmas extra special.

Adapted from Choi Hang Yong-directed film The Sea of Tranquility, the upcoming Netflix series will also unveil more mysteries and thrilling scenes to the public.

The flick will tell the story of the disastrous 24-hour mission to the moon and how the space explorers try to retrieve data from an abandoned research facility while on their mission. With the help of its main cast – Gong Yoo, Bae Doo Na, Lee Joon, Kim Sun-Young, and Lee Moo Saeng – the series will be the next hit Korean series to arrive on the streaming platform following Squid Game and Hellbound.

What's more interesting is that Heo Sung Tae, the gangster from Squid Game, joins the cast list as the chief of Resource Group of Aviation named Kim Jae Sun.

Ahead of its official release, the main stars talked about the challenges they faced while completing the series.

Gong Yoo, Bae Doo Na See The Silent Sea As Most Challenging Project Yet

In an interview posted by Korea Times, Gong Yoo and Bae Doo Na revealed that The Silent Sea is currently one of the most exciting flicks they have worked on so far. In the series, the actor plays the role of space agency leader Han Yoon Jae while Bae Doo Na plays the role of a space biologist named Song Ji-an.

According to Bae Doo Na, she always loves taking projects full of adventure. When she first landed on the role, she reportedly felt curious about filming outer space-related scenes and made it her inspiration to unleash her creative capabilities.

"This is the kind of movie I've been waiting for a long time. I've always had a desire to do a science fiction thriller movie and, as soon as I read the script, I immediately wanted to take part in it," Gong Yoo said.

The Train To Busan star also opened up how hard it was to film scenes in a weightless environment. Though South Korea already produced space-related flicks, Gong Yoo described it as a never-before-seen story in the country.

More Details About The Silent Sea

Before the official release of the series, the creators dropped the official stills of the stars while working on the surface of the moon that was created and designed by director Choi Hang Yong himself.

Due to his love for the moon, the director made the story and added a secret research base to the story. When they finally got closer to the clues, the crew started to build curiosity about the truth behind the silent sea.

The Silent Sea will premiere on Netflix on December 24.
