The School for Good and Evil is the latest YA novel adaptation that is now on Netflix. It is a fantasy film filled to the brim with one's favorite mystical creatures and characters. The question though is should you allow your child to watch the film?

What Is It About?

The School for Good and Evil is a story about a couple of best friends, Sophie (played by Sophie Anne Caruso) and Agatha (played by Sofia Wylie), who are both considered outcasts in the Gavaldon Village. Sophie has dreams of becoming a princess while villagers accuse Agatha of being a witch.

The two manage to escape their village and into a magical place where good and bad fairy tale characters learn to fulfill their destinies. However, the two are sent to different paths-- Sophie ends up going to the School for Evil, which is overseen by Lady Lesso (played by Charlize Theron). Agatha, on the other hand, is sent to the princess-making School for Good, where Professor Dovey (played by Kerry Washington) heads.

What Is The School for Good and Evil Movie Rated?

The School for Good and Evil has been rated PG-13, which means it contains scenes that are unsuitable for children below the ages of 12.

Despite being a fantasy film, it was given this rating for violence, action, and some frightening images throughout the movie. In addition, some of the characters use strong language and there is the appearance of blood and various weapons.

If you have an older child, like a teenager, this film is suitable for him. For younger children, unfortunately, this film is not recommended at this time.

Does The School for Good and Evil Have Romance?

There is some romance included in The School for Good and Evil. The film features some scenes where characters kiss each other. The movie also has content that talks about love and true love's kiss.

Is The School for Good and Evil Violent?

The School for Good and Evil includes a lot of dark magic and blood magic content. There is also a lot of fighting using swords and magic. The movie also contains deaths and murders. The film also highlights a beast being cut in half and a final fight scene that ends with several characters getting killed or injured.

There are some scenes that may be too scary for young children, especially the dark, giant birds that kidnap children.

Is The School for Good and Evil LGBT?

Despite being a female-dominated cast, The School for Good and Evil does not go over the top with its gender fluidity. But Agatha ends up kissing Sophie to save her as she is her friend's true love. The film does not include sex scenes or extreme violence.

Does The School for Good and Evil Contain Strong Language?

This is something that parents should be careful about when allowing their kids to watch The School for Good and Evil.

The film contains some strong language and some characters express themselves using profanity. Be on the lookout for words like "sh*t," "a**," "hell", "freaks," and "weirdo."

Should I Let My Young Child Watch The School for Good and Evil?

Overall, The School for Good and Evil is a good film to watch for older children. If you have a teenager above 13 years old, they are okay to watch the film without getting bothered by some of the scenes.

The entire film runs a total of 2 hours and 27 minutes.
