The Rings of Power Season 2 Continue Filming Without Showrunners Present

The Rings of Power Season 2 may have hit a couple of snags in their filming production schedule, however, despite the ongoing writers’ strike in Hollywood, a new report sheds light that the season will still film without the showrunners present.

Variety reports that The Rings of Power Season 2 merely has 19 days of shooting left, urging the show to continue filming despite the absence of the showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.

According to WGA strike rules, in the duration of the strike, writer-producers may not participate in their "usual creative capacity", so non-writing executive producers, directors and crew will be able to take over those duties on set (via CBR.com).

Producers and directors include Charlotte Brändström, Sanaa Hamri, Louise Hooper and Lindsey Weber.

Apparently, showrunners Payne and McKay reportedly planned this ahead of the WGA strike, preparing the production team to take over in case they weren’t able to arrive on set.

The writers’ strike began on May 2 when the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) refused to negotiate with the corresponding terms from the WGA’s list of demands.

It is worth noting that most of these ‘demands’ only exude two things: fair compensation and job security.

However, given that AMPTP failed to meet such standards to renew their contract, Hollywood writers took it upon themselves to grab their picket signs.

Thankfully, some of the writers on popular shows have foreseen this happening and managed to prepare the script and their team in the case of a strike coming forward.

Shows that will continue filming without the presence of writers and showrunners also include Disney+’s Andor Season 2 and House of the Dragon Season 2, as previously reported.

The Rings of Power’s second season may have suffered production delays involving a horse dying on set and a small fire starting.

Not to mention, potentially harming wildlife, but it seems the series is still on track for its expected release.

The Rings of Power Season 2 has no official release date yet, but is expected to premiere on Amazon Prime sometime in 2024.
