Following its reveal last month, The Quintessential Quintuplets announced that its new anime special will be released this July. Along with the release date, more details about the anime have also been revealed.
What’s interesting is that ahead of its TV broadcast, the anime special will be released in Japanese cinemas for three weeks, making it the second theatrical release for the franchise.
Along with this, the special is also interesting as it is made by a different studio that many anime fans should be familiar with.
Another Anime Studio Is Working on The Quintessential Quintuplets Special
While many anime shows are made by just one studio even through multiple seasons, that’s not the case with The Quintessential Quintuplets.
The first season was animated by Tezuka Productions, the studio behind works such as My Home Hero, Girlfriend, Girlfriend, and Kids on the Slope, among others.
As for the second season, the show was made by Bibury Animation Studios, which is also the studio behind the Azur Lane anime.
Bibury is also the studio that worked on The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie.
Instead of returning to Bibury, the new anime project will be made by the popular studio Shaft.
Many anime fans are no doubt familiar with Shaft as they made the Monogatari series, Nisekoi, and March Comes in Like a Lion.
Most of Shaft’s works have a distinct art style, so it’ll be interesting to see how this new Quintuplets anime will look, especially as the first two seasons had a noticeable change in art style.

The Quintessential Quintuplets Anime Special, Release Date
Shaft’s involvement in the anime was announced alongside more info about the upcoming special, including how it will feature an opening theme that will be performed by the five main voice actresses.
There’s not a lot of info about the story, though it was previously confirmed that this anime special will cover parts of the manga that were skipped between Season 2 and the movie.
So, this special won’t be a continuation of the movie, as the film functions as the ending for the series’ story.
The Quintessential Quintuplets anime special will get a TV broadcast in the summer, though it will first get a cinema release in Japan on July 14, 2023.
For now, there’s no word yet on a specific TV release date for the special, nor is there word on when it will be streamed outside Japan.
