Prime Video has officially confirmed The Peripheral Season 2. The show, based on the novel by William Gibson, has been in the works for a second season since late last year when Amazon Studios Head of Television Vernon Sanders stated that scripts for a second season were already being prepared.
The Peripheral Season 2 To 'Delve Deeper' Into William Gibson's World
The Peripheral Season 1 premiered on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories globally on Oct. 21, 2022. Amazon Studios and Warner Bros Television are producing the show in collaboration with Kilter Films.
Kilter Films' Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan have both expressed their delight at the announcement of The Peripheral Season 2.
"We are thrilled to continue the journey into Season Two and delve deeper into the incredible world that Gibson created," they said in a statement. "On behalf of Scott Smith, Vincenzo Natali, and the entire team, we're grateful to our partners at Amazon and, most of all, to the fans."
What Is The Peripheral All About?
Flynne, the main character of The Peripheral, is played by Chloë Grace Moretz, who is looking for meaning in her life while caring for her ailing mother. She is an avid gamer, as is her brother Burton (played by Jack Reynor). This leads them to try out a new system from a company, which allows Flynne to realize her goals but also puts her life in danger.
The story had already extended far beyond its intricate premise by the end of Season 1 of the sci-fi drama. Flynne eventually takes command, fighting with opponents such as Zubov (JJ Feild) and Cherise (T'Nia Miller). She protects her 2032 stub by depending on an unexpected partnership, which briefly mitigates Cherise's threat.
Nonetheless, The Peripheral altered dramatically by causing a new splinter in history. However, with the impending threat of the Research Institute still present, Flynne is far from safe.
The Peripheral Season 2 will have to answer important questions, such as whether the Jackpot can be avoided. There's also the question of whether Flynne and Wilf will be able to undo the Research Institute's haptic manipulations.
Other mysteries surround Flynne, such as how she is linked to Aelita's grandfather clock. Zublov was at the core of The Peripheral's post-credits scenario, where he was confronted by Russians who ordered him to sever links with The Research Institute.
