The Marvels: Monica Rambeau Hero Identity Seemingly Confirmed By Writer

Part of Marvel Phase Five is one of the most highly anticipated collaboration: the Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels, where the film is set to star the big three: Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Ms. Marvel aka Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) who has yet to be given her hero name. However, a new report has seemingly confirmed the hero identity of Monica in The Marvels.

Monica Rambeau was first introduced in WandaVision, in which she had only discovered having superpowers by the climax of the series. With her joining the team, we have yet been informed of what her hero identity is, exactly. However, previously, there had been leaks on what her superhero costume would look like, which sports black and white colors.

In the new comic book featuring Monica, the hero identity of the third “Captain Marvel” is said to be Photon. Eve L. Ewing, who is a writer in the same title, recently talked to Black Comic Lords about her work and the reason behind the decision of calling Monica, “Photon”. Check out Ewing’s full quote below:

“Keep in mind, comics world, as y’all know, the publishing side and the MCU side do not communicate frequently,” Ewing explained, “But we do, sometimes. Let me put it this way: I’ll tell you this, I did not choose for her to be called Photon. In this comic, I’ll tell you that. That is all I will say.”

In a previous discussion, Monica’s hero name went from Spectrum to Photon under the same award-winning author Ewing in Monica Rambeau: Photon. Monica has also gone through other names, as well, including Captain Marvel, and Spectrum (which was chosen during her involvement in the Marvel event series Infinity) in The Mighty Avengers. While nothing has been confirmed by Marvel yet, it is safe to say we are definitely getting closer to unveiling Monica’s to-be superhero identity.

The Marvels is currently slated for release on July 28, 2023.
