The Marvels will not just serve as a sequel to Captain Marvel, but it will also follow up on some of the story threads of other MCU projects such as Ms. Marvel, WandaVision, Secret Invasion, and Avengers: Endgame. Fans are curious to see how it will also connect to the larger Multiverse Saga.

There's no doubt that the upcoming MCU film will follow what has come before in the franchise in many ways whether it's the story connectivities or the DNA that was set by the earlier phases. It will also continue to do so in many MCU films and TV shows to come.

Now, the director of the film has revealed which MCU films from the past inspired The Marvels and her answer may surprise you.

Speaking with Collider, director Nia DaCosta was asked which past MCU film inspired her during the making of The Marvels. She revealed that Iron Man 3 served as her main influence, particularly due to the visual effects on the Extremis.

"Oh, Iron Man 3. I just love it so much, first of all. I think it's one of the best Marvel films. But also, in a really practical sense actually, the Extremis effect, which I really loved in the film influenced us on another thing we did in our film, which you'll see when you watch it," she said.

This might be a surprising answer to some fans since not a lot of them may have considered the idea that the threequel was an influence in the new film since they don't have similarities in terms of the story and tone.

However, perhaps DaCosta looked at how the Extremis visual effects were done as her influence on how they will present the powers of the characters in the film, especially if it has an overheating visual look.

Obviously, we won't be able to pinpoint what DaCosta meant exactly in what said in the interview until we see the entire film, but it is an interesting tidbit nonetheless since it gives us an idea about the visuals that she set and it is something that we can keep an eye on when we watch it.

The Marvels is set to arrive in theaters this Friday, November 10.
